Re: Which V8 should i use?
you can still get a 4wd tranny it dosent mean you have to use the 4wd in it just have it in 2wd all the time , also t-5s have a hydraulic kit availible to convert the inside part to hydraulic operated clutch

I I was to do something other than the typical 5.0, I'd do a coyote 5.0.
If you're gonna go through all the work of making the 4.6 or 5.4 fit, may as well just do the coyote.

Yea cool the 5.4L 4v only came stock with 500HP and a supercharger. Lincoln had a similar 5.4L DOHC with good power as well. The 5.0L will cost more to build up to 400HP than just buying a 5.4L DOHC. They are plentiful in the south as well.

If you decide to cut the front coils off and swap in a front axle then you could use the 4wd stuff.

Re: Which V8 should i use?
for the issue of 5L mostly being either 4wd or AWD and the 2wd being rare, wouldnt a Mustang 5L work as well (even though its configured a little differently)

proabbly 1000 lbs max. Towing doesn't change if you put the engine and transmission in a truck.

Seriously the 4R70w the same one found in F150's and explorers you think can't tow. Nothing wrong with a T5 behind a stockish 5.0L and towing same with the T56 or even the F150 manual from that generation.

You stated the T5 was a crap transmission in mustangs if i'm not mistaken.
I still wouldn't tow with a transmission that's built for a mustang.

It's a terrible transmission with any form of power the stock mustang only made 205HP...That's the same as a 4.0L mind you so that's why it doesn't have to many issues. The 4R70w however is the same exact transmission in the mustang as in the F150.

The thing is the explorer and f150 are built for towing vs a stang , but those power trains in a ranger are still limited by the suspension and frame of the ranger

I wouldn't worry about the frame as much the suspension. That's where add-a-leaf comes into play. The explorer and ranger share frames.

I want at least 6,000 lbs towing. I figured if a 4.0 v6 ranger could do it, then won't a 5.0 v8 ranged, or more? I do know that even with add a leads and everything, the truck could start dancing with heavier trailers. But if I'm going to take the time to put in a v8, then I want it to be able to tow also.
