In all the world, I would go with an Audi V8, but to put in a Ranger, The 5.0 Explorer motors are the easiest swap.

Hands down, IMO, the best v8 for swapping and modding and all around affordability out of pocket, would be the GM LS-series GenIII small blocks, like an LS1.

The best engine would be a gm 5.3 or 6.0 ls series motors. I love my ranger and i have own both ford and chevy chevys new small blocks are king. the ford 5.4 loves to weld and shoot spart plugs out of the head and isnt responsive enough.

I like chevy V8's a lot from what I've seen, but I think it would be easier to put a ford engine in there? I didn't even imagine it would be comparable..

Each are going to have their pros and cons. Ford 5.0L would be easier since there is a lot of information, common engine, and manufacturers make swap parts into the Ranger. But some of the swap stuff is over priced and just doesn't work out always. 5.0Ls can be made to make some good power, but they are a little more expensive to build. But IMO they are a good reliable motor.
