Default Marine alternator and some other stuff

Hey there world,

I wanna know what everyone's thoughts are about using a marine self-exciting alternator for my 302 ford ranger since the truck will eventually be used to run some fairly heavy duty items. The engine's a 302 HO with a 4-barrel double pumper carburetor. I'm already in the process of tearing out all of the wiring front to rear and the dash gauges and redoing it the no-pain way since I'll only have a lighting/aux circuit, charging circuit, starting circuit, and ignition circuit (which will be interestingly simple in itself. Found a Ford-compatible HEI distributor that only requires a 12V power hookup to the coil). I'm trying to keep it simple by using a self-exciting alternator and as little wiring as I can so I can keep it a truck i can fix on the side of the road.

Go look at my thread. I run a carbed 306 with HEI ignition and a one wire alternator.
