Default engine upgrade

im currently running a I4 engine in my ranger and instead of buying a new vehicle i want to do an engine swap. how much customization is needed as far as engine mounts and new wireing is needed to make the change

From what I've read, the 302 from a same year explorer isn't hard. But you might be looking at a good amount of modifications if your looking to do any other engine

do you happen to know about what types of mods to swap it?
... ive done two engine swaps before they where a stock engine to a 350 small block chevy then swap that 350 to a 305 small block and there wasnt any mods that i can remember i had to do. is that just the difference between ford and chevy trucks?

you probably have coil spring suspension since it's a 98+ with a 4cyl. You will need to either fabricate or have plates made to mount a 5.0L engine into your truck. swapping 305s and 350s is not a big deal, this will be harder to do. Sounds like you might have some sort of hope that it will bolt to your current transmission, it will not nor is it ever a good idea to use a 4cyl trans with a v8 engine.

i was somewhat hoping that there was a almost possibility but im actually workin with a buddy of mine and im about to drop in a 4wd transmission off of a rebuilt 97 ranger. but after lookin around i think that im gonna go with a 4.0L v6... it just makes more since financially, especially when you consider that i sit in traffic in this truck for 3 hrs daily and its still gonna be my primary vehicle during and after my project is done
