Default Swapping 302 into 96 ford ranger help PLEASE :)

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum. Reading around for the past few minutes has been very informative so far. Its good to see a good forum for rangers is kicking around

Anyways before I start I know there are several articles on swapping a 302 into a ranger but I have a few direct questions I was hoping someone could help me out with.

I have a 96 for ranger 3.0L manual (shes getting tired ) I also have a rotted 87 Mustang with a rebuilt engine and t5 manual tranny. So how easy can I achieve this swap and in how little time (considering this is my daily driver) I am very mechanically inclined and my dad is a mechanic, we also have a shop with a hoist.

So what I've gathered from reading so far is i'll need advance adapters motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, and oil pan correct? Can I use the mustang serpentine assembly? Can I use my stock 3.0 Rad? I plan on using electric fans being as I have some lying around.

Yes there are more questions... lol sorry... I can't find any direct information on using the t5 transmission. Also I have no idea where to start with the wiring harness, Will the mustang harness work with minor splicing?

My budget is under a 1000... Is this possible considering I have a complete donor car?

Again sorry for all the questions and such a long post. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I've got alot of info on my cardomain page on how to swap the efi setup and some of the costs involved, even if the year of your truck is newer than mine. Probably cost over your budget amount but not as much if the motor has already been overhauled. You can use the stock serpentine setup but will be a little tight for most electric fan installs, some mount it on the front of the radiator, and the stock radiator will not be enough, got mine through advance adapters. Just came back from El Centro and the coolant reservoir was spilling over even with the cooling fan on (102 on average).

The T-5 should mount up to the stock bracket using the same mount off of your current transmission. The driveshaft will need to be shortened an inch or two. Was able to adapt a pull type willwood slave cylinder to make the clutch work using the stock master cylinder.

Get as much info on the wiring harness and what would need to be integrated on a schematic before starting out.

Good luck, Scott...

Here's a couple of websites that do an extremely good job of breaking everything down and have a complete parts list along with some links and one has a video clip of a completed installation.

This one has everything listed including links and total breakdown of what you'll need and a rough estimate in costs.

http://www.v8ranger.com/

This one has a video clip of a completed swap and he has a huge parts list that he used to complete this project. He also has some photos of other rangers with V8 engines, including Tim Sockness' Pro Street Ranger which made the cover of the November 2010 issue of Car Craft magazine.
