My idea: RBV have an offset chunk, so one axle tube is longer than the other, what if I take the tube out of the long side, shorten it to the same as the short side, reinstall it, put 2 short axles in it, this should narrow the complete rearend by approx. 3" and get the tires tucked inside the wheelwells.
The offset of the wheels won't allow alotta narrowin.............
I just measured the 7.5 I pulled out of the RAT Ranger......RR tube is 16 5/8" and LR is 19 1/2" = 2 7/8" difference.....
Any input on removin the tube? Do I heat it after removin the axle shaft, then twist it with a pipe wrench, and then reinstall the same way???

^^^^cut and weld. The tube is "pinned" to the pumpkin. But remember, you're gonna have to relocate the spring perches to keep the tires centered.

Best way is to cut the tube with a large pipe cutter. Cut out the 2 7/8 and clamp some angle iron to both pieces and weld it back together. Then just visit the junk yard and get another passenger side axle shaft.

| | Ah huh>>> I found the answer on a sister site (RPS), if anybodies interested, heres the link: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...=215899&page=9
I'm gonna go yardin some tomorrow, with the number of Explorers available after CFC, should be able to pick up a good 95 up disc braked rearend for around $100.....then I do this mod to it, and stuff it under the RAT Ranger and that'll get the tires totally inside the wheelwell. |

^^^there is NO DOUBT that the Ford 9" is TOP DOG!
But as far as my builds, I like the Ranger bodies better than the S10's and the engine bays have more room, but for the $$$, ya can't beat a SBC, and when your on a budget like me, it was a NO BRAINER! |

I'll bring one to the K-town meet, either driveable like March last year, or as a roller/trailer queen for those to look at what I've done to that point.
I worked on the green 94 today, probably another couple hours with no snaffous, and it's be ready to fire off.
At that point, it'll be time to remove the drivetrain of the 99, start test fittin, and mockin up for the RAT!
And my Son is chompin at the bit for me to dismantle his 93, and start mockin up the black 94 for HIGH HP 355.
SO, I've got alot on my plate not countin the medical issues I've been dealin with lately, but that's another story.
THANKS for the interest guys!

| | Been a while>>>> Got more coals in the fire than I can keep up with...........
I went through my motor on my green 94 this past winter, I have done a similar setup with the exception of narrowin the rearend by usin 2 right side axles:
Weld Draglite 15X12 with 7.5" backspacin & 28X15.50 tires on rear and 15X5 fronts with 225/75 skinnies.......
Will get some pics after I get the bed back on in a week or so...........
Next I'm gonna modify my steerin box with knuckles to clear my long tube headers.
