Project V8 Complete
My V8 project is complete. Runs and drives fantastic. What a difference from the 4cyl. This build included removing the 4 cyl and stick trans. Removing the complete radiator support. Installing all new upper and lower A frames, springs and shocks. All of which was powder coated black. Build and install a 396Hp 302,with TCI C4 trans. Paint and reinstall core the support. This was all done with show in mind so all factory harness was used and the complete build has to look like the factory installed it, right down to every nut and bolt had to be painted like the factory did. The project was started in Oct. and put the first 50 miles on her today

Re: Project V8 Complete
I have been debating what to do to get better power and decent fuel milage out of my ranger, how much would a 302 build run and what is the differance at the pump. Also how did u wire up a carbed engine in a 99?

Re: Project V8 Complete
If you are looking for decent fuel mileage your probably better off sticking with a efi 5.0. There are 42 wires in the 4 cyl wire harness, out of them you only need 9 to do a carbed engine swap. As far as $$ you can do it a lot less than i did I have $4,000.00 in the completed build and i did all of the work myself. BUT i can't describe what its like to drive. If everything is correct its somewhere around 396hp and it feels like it. In the 4 cyl wire harness there are 42 wires and out of that 42 you only need 9 to do a carbed swap. Everything on the dash works, with a few tricks.

Re: Project V8 Complete
Man that does look like it's factory. Nice job man. I'm about to have a 350 SBC in my ranger soon myself. I was told an LQ4 with a 4L80E tranny and a LS1 intake manifold would yeild better results. I was also told that i'd have about 415 horsepower and roughly about 430 ft. Lbs of torque and still get roughly about 32 or 33 mpg's. which is alot better than what I'm getting now. Edlebrock has an intake manifold that's based on a an LS1 that fits the old 350 SBC and can use a carb to boot. They came out with earlier this year.

Re: Project V8 Complete
Thanks
I took pictures every day throughout the build and have over 100. I just have to pick thru them and figure the best place to post them. I will probably put together a post in the pictures area. I will try and have them done before this weekend. I also have plenty of notes and part #s if anybody needs them.

I've rode in 2 V8 rangers with a carbed motor. As long as you don't stand on the throttle they get about the same mpgs as your 4.0 maybe even a shade better. And the ride is awesome and hard to describe too.

Probably similar to a V8 S10 lol it's raw, unreal, earthmoving feeling. It's pure sex, and a wonderful vibration on the man berries. It's awesome!

It's pretty damn close, but the 5.0 was alot better in some respects. I had a 350 in an S10 but the 350 was stock though. I bet it would've been different if it had more power. I bet your GF would be slapping you right now if she heard you say that, L.O.L.
