How can you not like the side pipes Scott? That's the koolest thing you can do to a ranger I think. But it is an excellent sleeper that's for sure.

That's sick, and I'm not a fan of the side pipes, but it's your truck, whatever the hell you want, do.

Question. My dad's givin me shot about my V8 swap sayin 350hp will make it undriveable. Is it a pain at all to drive your truck with that much power?

The one I rode in had 450 horses and he didn't have any trouble out of it. The reason I like the side pipes is because it reminds me of the 1965 427 Shelby AC Cobras. The original starts at 22 million and Carol Shelby still makes them, but Factory 5 racing makes a really kool replica of it at an affordable price. Theirs is based on the 5.0 engine though.

I have a TCI C4 trans setup for 350+ hp and the drive ability is great. Just a little touchy to take off on gravel but real nice to drive. It has a Carter 650 AFB and its real smooth through out its travel, until you hit the secondaries. I have not tried it on wet roads yet might be a different story. Due to the fuel tank position on the 99 ranger its hard to install dual exhaust and have them come out of the rear of the truck. The side pipes cures this problem and they have a great deep sound.

I getcha, I love AC Cobras (I own a Stang myself) and I'd love to do a Mk 4 Factory Five kit. You can put more than a 302 in it though. You can fit a 427 in it, they have one up here where I live.

Dmize- sweet, I'm a big 4x4 so side pipes wouldn't work from a practical standpoint. (They'd be in the way of rock-sliders)

I have completed a parts list with part numbers and vendor. Its too big to post here but if anybody wants it i will be glad to send it to them. Its in a pdf format. Might be of some help for someone doing a 98-2000 carbed swap.

Oh I know all about Factory 5 Racing's kits. They can built you a kit with any engine you want in it period. That 1933 that they came out with was pretty sweet. They have another kit coming out that's based on a Subaru donor vehicle pretty soon. Carol Shelby lost my respect when he tried to sue them over a design that wasn't even his and the fact that they're more companies out there that make the 1965 427 Shelby A/C Cobra kits and he only went after them. He tried to sue them over the 1965 Daytona coupe replica that Pete Brock designed in the early 60's. The Judge threw it out and with good reason. He also informed Carol Shelby of the fact that him going after one company and there's alot more out there than just Factory 5 Racing was ludicrist. I also would like to end the thread jack as well.

What kind of camshaft and heads did you use on your project?

I used a Comp Cam 270/270 dur 533 lift roller. The heads are 60cc GT40P ported with all Comp valve train. I was building more for show than HP. The truck will not hit the strip. Once in a while daily driver and every show we can make. So far we have had real good response when they see a V8 ranger. Lots of questions.

I don't know about you but if I roll up next to something with side pipes I am expecting some performance.

Nice choice on the cam. Comp has one that I like called the thumpr cams.

Me too, but I'm also smart enough to know not to bother racing something like that too. I see ricers attempt it just about every time and it gets a little humorous at times, L.O.L.
