Default Need help on V-8 Swap

Hello, I would like some guidance and advice on getting started on my engine swap. I have a 1993 2WD XLT currently with a 4.0L and I am trying to put a 5.0L 302 in it. I have been doing alot of research online and most of it has been on therangerstation.com. I would really appreciate any help with info on where to start buying an engine, transmission, ect. Thank you.

Carsten

I personally haven't done a swap, however I do know that the easiest place to find engines and transmissions is a junk yard. Take your time and piece something together if you can, there are plenty of old Mustangs and F-150's lying around for you to make a good engine. As for the transmission; if you are going manual, pulling an M5OD-R2 from a V8 F-150 should be easy enough, however depending on the year and power of the engine you are putting in you could possibly keep the stock transmission.

X2. That's the one of the best places to look along with insurance companies that keep totaled repairables around. Those are also a good source for parts as well. They cost too much for the insurance company to repair them, but they still sell them as repairables to the general public. I found that out not long ago for an upcoming project that I'm getting ready to do. I found that going with or near the same year as the ranger you have makes things alot easier and most of the time parts usually bolt right in.

www.mypartshop.com

www.car-part.com

If you have a good feel for which donor vehicle you want the engine and trans to come out of, these sites are the best way to find parts you need at yards close to you.

Or you can just hit the local pick-and-pull and hope for the best.

Summit sells a swap kit for the motor mounts you will also need special headers to clear the steering colum. also carberation is the easy way to go, less wiring But if your up to it I recomend a painless wiring harness and a computer from a 90's gt mustang

----------

explorer motors are basicly COBRA motors and have gt 40 heads and the same upper and lower intake as the cobra. get the newer motor with the gt 40p's and ur going somewhere!
