One of the major points is that the engine hardly works at all going down the interstate, and fly up the mountain passes at around 90 to 100 in 4th with those who have lead feet on the gas (wouldn't recommend it). Even when the back end is loaded up with 200 lbs of gear.

Simple, 300'ish hp doesn't require moving the gas pedal much, even in 5th. Probably should have said it doesn't work as hard unless your'e towing something large up the pass, and watch the mpg's drop to around 10.

I have about the same 2k rpm's with it in 5th with the big tires, didn't think the mileage would ever get around 24 with it. Was blown away getting close to 340 miles on a long trip.

starting to sound like an average tranny gearing for the v8's. How's the mileage for longer trips?

as soon as i go thru a tank i will let you know. going by the amount the gauge moves going from the same place to home with the 4 cyl to the v8 its about the same, but with the 4 cyl the pedal was to the floor at times trying to go uphill and with the 400 hp v8 its a lot different.

I get 20 -25 miles to the gallon highway in overdrive doing 70-75 im taching 1300-1500 rpm This is another reason I love my truck the motor out of an explorer was mean to pull a much larger vehicle. Now that being said when those secondaries open up she is buring major fuel! .. . .Loving it
