Default Does 8 Spark plugs mean 8 cylinders?

Stupid question, I know, but I have to ask.

no, you have a four cylinder engine if you have 8 spark plugs, they don't have any stock rangers offering an 8 cylinder.

Speaking of which, why do I only have 4 spark plugs in my 02 mazda b2300 cause I thought all the latest generation had 8 spark plugs four bangers?

Ford put 8 plugs on the 2.5L and I think even 2.3L Lima series engines. They supposedly provide better fuel burn in the combustion chamber. That's why they added the extra plug per cyl. I would think that Ford didnt see the need for 2 plugs per cylinder on the 2.3L Duratech engines which debuted mid '01 model year. Must've gotten a full fuel burn in the chamber with just one plug.

No, 8 spark plugs do not necesarily mean 8 cylinders.

Though I will add... Ive read people saying there's two per cyl for the plugs to have a longer service life, as each plug in each cylinder is used 50% of the time. Meaning, on one ignition stroke, one plug will light. On the next ignition stroke, the other plug will light. Thus doubling the service life of the parts(supposedly).

Extended life is poppy****. It was implemented to help the TQ. It really was an overkill design as there are many ways to do the same thing without wasting a bundle on perfecting someone elses tech. It worked, but upgrading the ignition type would have saved in the long run, they were shooting for a simple production change that would improve carbon output and performance, outdated before it went into production.
