302 Gas Tank Vent Question

I am running the fuel lines from my tank to my mechanical fuel pump on the 302 and i noticed that there is a vent line that somehow connected to my vacuum system before i took the all the vac stuff out. I was wondering what i should do with that line; plug it, leave it open, or remove it completely in order to get the fuel flowing from my tank to the pump. Oh and as for the electric fuel pump, i was just going to pull the fuse and leave it intact. BTW my truck is a 2000 Ranger used to have a 3.0 V6, 2WD extended cab so 126" Wheelbase if that helps any. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

are you talking about the hard plastic line that hooks up to the charcoal filter or one of the solenoids that go to the fuel regulator. Kinda under the impression that if it came from anything from the efi set, should be able to be plugged up and check for any kind of immediate problems, most likely wont affect the carb operation.

Thanks for the quick reply, it is the solenoid one like in the picture. I'm gonna go ahead and plug it like you said and see what happens, i was just thinking in terms of fuel flow, like on the old style gas cans where you had a vent on the opposite end of the spout type of thing.

Kinda gave it another thought about the mechanical pump operation, you should have a frame mounted pump and not too sure if it will feed too much fuel to your carb, the tank mounted pump should be sufficient to get fuel through the mech pump and up to the carb. The fuel pressure guage in mine is set at around 30 psi at idle and goes up to around 38 when punching it, you might need to bypass the one on the frame. If i'm not mistaken, the mechanical pump puts out around 6 psi but might want to look it up just in case.

So your saying that the mechanical pump would not be enough to get the fuel up to the carb? Because a carb only needs like 4-7 psi to operate i believe.

The mechanical pump definitely puts out just what you need for the carb, the tank mounted pump is fairly small and supplies the fuel out of the tank to keep from vapor locking the line between the tank and mechanical pump.

Definitely hold on to the frame mounted pump in case you want to go to an efi setup, don't know if keeping it inline with the breaker pulled might cause a restriction in the fuel flow.
