Default Newbie with newbie question

Hi all,

Newbie, with new (to me) Ranger. Just bought an '87 Ranger with a 5.0 Liter upgrade from a 2.0 stock motor. Seller could not tell me much about the motor. He thought it was from a Mustang. Or I didn't listen well. Hey, I'm 16 and the motor has shiny stuff, I was distracted. Where do I look for an identification number on a Ford 5.0? Don't want to make a mistake on OEM or aftermarket upgrade parts.

Thanks,
Dylan

Start with some pics of the motor, and we can help.

Shiny stuff will do that!
Especially if it's on a 5.0 v8 motor!

If i understood the question right, you are asking how to identify if you actually do have a 5.0 in your ranger. First off, it will obviously have 8 spark plugs, then the intake should say 5.0 on it if it is an efi and simple stuff like the water pump and alternator and trans should tell you if it is a 5.0 or not.

Oh, i see. Well if it was out of a mustang, you could see if XXX is stamped in the valley but that would require removal of the upper and lower intake

Actually I think he was asking how he can Identify the block so he can upgrade the parts as needed. Look on the block underneath the exhaust manifolds. He should find the numbers there and it should tell him what he's got and what it came out of.
