Same here. I'm looking at swapping out my 3.0L in my 2000 Ranger and putting in a 5.0L Explorer engine. So any help, hints, ideas, etc. would really be appreciated, since this will be my first swap, so please keep me in mind.....Thanks....Kenny

Will be starting this summer hopefully. 5.0 w/T-5 trans. My buddy already has a bunch of extra parts from his mustang that he turbo'd for whenever I get the the funds to get the rest.

Yes I am indeed planning a V8 swap. I'll explain why here shortly.

That's a DIRECT BOLT IN. The 1999 to 2001 explorers had a 302/5.0 engine installed from the factory. All you need is the mounts and a donor explorer will have everything you need. Basicly it's ALL PLUG AND PLAY. just make sure that your ranger and explorer is THE EXACT SAME YEAR. It can be done in about 10 to 12 hours with the proper tools.

Default I found a nasty...

I found a very evil, sadistic, nasty problem with my truck. as most of you know I thought my exhaust was hitting the driveshaft again due to a improperly installed engine. I was partially right. The exhaust is NOT hitting the driveshaft but the engine HAS TO COME OUT. The engine is good don't get me wrong but a local ford dealer here will screw up a cup of coffee. They just installed the motor and didn't check and make sure that the mounts and the driveshaft were correct. Now I have 4+ inches of play with it IN GEAR, and the driveline is about 5 inches TOO SHORT. The only way to fix it is to pull the engine out and REINSTALL EVERYTHING. If I'm going to do that I just as well do a V8 swap. I found a guy that has a Chevy 305 (GM's version of a 302) that needs rebuilding for $100 bucks. Should I keep it all ford or go with this option here? I also found a guy that has several ford 302 engines for sale but he wants $50 bucks more than the other cat I mentioned.

I'm not much for Chevy's, but a Chevy engine will do you right. I'm going to swap my 3.0 for a Chevy 350 Small block sooner or later. More likely sooner than later.

Yep. I don't care too much for Chevys either but the 350 is alot easier to find and alot cheaper than a 302 to boot. I think it'll be a good fit. plus it's alot easier considering that there are more V8 conversion kits for an S10 than Ford Ranger.
