I think the truck is going to dictate which engine you will want to use.

83-95 Ranger, I would shoot for a 5.0L HO with the shorter front end dress. Throw on a set of aftermarket heads and higher ratio roller rockers. Fuel management is pretty much what you or your buddy can deal with, or what you can afford. Use a 4 or 5 speed manual transmission. If you have to do a lot of highway driving, that 3 speed is going to get oolldd quick. BTDT w/ a 327ci & TH-350. I went with an AOD to have O/D on my swap. Didn't have the time of funds to do a manual transition since my truck was auto from the factory, but save where you can and get the manual trans (IMO).

a long long long long time away after i can afford another daily driver because the rangers going to be down for awhile if i do it to this one i might just try and find a short cab and bed ranger and throw it in there and i still have to rebuild the motor and the tranny.. i found a galaxie 500 in the woods so i got a complete drive train just gotta rebuild it haha or i might just trash that idea and build me a 347 t-5 combo and have a good ol time with that

ok so this might sound noobish, or already have been answered but im a little too lazy to look through this whole thread. i wanna drop in a 5.0 out of a 96-01 explorer into my 01 ranger and go with a manual tranny. which transmission should i use?

T-56 is a great trans because of the extra gear but is going to run you quite a bit more money. the T-5 on the other hand are pretty plentiful and you should be able to find one cheap no problem.

I Have a 96 Ranger and sooner or later Im gonna swap out for a 302 5.0 engine. but Im gonna try to get enough money saved up to put true dual exhaust (H pipe) on it at the same time. It should be badass.

is a 351c realy the same sive as the the 429-460? i know it has the small block bolt pattern

351C - 429 - 460 Engines:

The 429 and 460 can be installed in a Ranger, although this is not a very practical swap. The big blocks length complicates installation and makes clearance in certain areas very tight. The stock Ranger/Bronco II chassis isn't capable of handling the torque of the large displacement motor and this adds to problems. We don't recommend the big block installation for any but the most serious race applications and never in a four-wheel drive.
