Default Looking into the V8 swap.. convince me..

Hey guys, so just recently the timing chain in my engine busted and the rest of the engine went kapooot and so the plan as of now is to drop in another v6 and a new exhaust i believe...

Now, im not paying for this to be done, my father is so i need to know a few things:

Cost vs a V6 engine

Difficulty ( a local shop would be doin it)

MPG loss/ gain??

legit reasons to do it?

any possible problems because of this???

my truck is a 2002 ford ranger xlt 4X4 v6 4.0 L in good shape.

thanks boys!

Don't know how much you are looking to invest, but i've got quite a bit of info on my cardomain page, might give you a few ideas to look into before taking the plunge.

Most just do the swap in their garages - just the labor alone would be in the thousands. Actually, might be cheaper to find one already swapped over.

i would expect a little over a grand for a complete engine (doesnt include intake or exhaust manifolds, and a couple other little parts). if you know a little about cars and work on them some then you should be able to do it with your dad. its not insanely hard.

mileage? well if you put the same v6 in then it should be very close to the same as the original. a v8 will normally be less of course but that depends on which one you choose and how you drive it
