Default More Tech Questions

Engine totally torn down. Reusing the new parts only put together correctly. Good thing it was never started. Three pistons in backwards. Heads are probably the worse ones they could have used, 77 69cc heads. Having it balanced and still should wind up 270HP. When I do something I like it to be right and this steering has to be wrong, wheel and shaft are kicked up, no doubt due to body lift. 1) Anyone got a picture of it done correctly? 2) Motor mounts. I was told Econoline mounts are the same as the ones sold for the conversion only cheaper, correct or not? 3) Power steering pump, what pump/mount bolts and hoses fit? 4) Fuel pump, stock pump w/ regulator or go to, say a Carter P4070? I'll more than likely use an Edelbrock 500 or 600cfm. Guess thats enough for this time. Susposed to be pretty tomorrow so I'll roll it out and pressure wash it so I can paint undercarriage.

You'll probably want to use the 'vert' mounts and drill/slot the cross member.

I used a 199(?) Cougar Steering pump non-variable assist and the stock ranger high pressure line w/ ATF.

Best to go w/ an electric pump, mechanical is going to have issue with the steering box. Some say you can use the inverted from a Econoline. I am using my stock pumps, but after it was said it done, would have been cheaper to go with a low pressure aftermarket. I retained the stock spring-lok fittings and used an adjustable return style pressure regulator w/ 3/8 NPT ports.

Thanks for the reply. After cleaning everything up, checked the motor mounts good and looks like I can reuse them. Got the steering straightened out by shimming the column under the dash, lot better angle now. Looking at a picture of it, seems like I can use the stock sender and pickup minus the pump and add low press. electric external pump. I'll have to look at it when I find one. Got the engine back from my builder and had it balanced while he had it torn down. Might try getting the engine and tranny back in next week.

Do you know what the mounts are from?

Good deal on the steering, not too sure on that subject as I am not really into lifting trucks.

Think what some do is remove a piece off of the return line in the tank and use the original return as the new feed to the pump. The savings will come in when you don't have to use EFI fuel line, and I believe some low pressure aftermarket pumps don't require a return.

You will like the engine balance, mine runs nice and smooth compared to an '88 Stang I had with a '93 HO engine.

The mounts are L&L. Met a boy yesterday that had a few parts from his donor vehicle, so he gave me an old tank with sender intact. Now I know what what I'm dealing with. The return line is a smaller size, but dont see any reason why I can't extend the regular output line and take out the pump. Problem will be getting the fuel sock on it, but really don't see why I can't do away with it and just use a metal canister filter on the frame and then another see thru style in the engine bay. Picked up a power steering pump and alternator from him. Got them for core prices, so not out anything.

Hey, whatever works! More than 1 one to skin a cat. Good deal on the parts. Think I still have an alt bracket, P/S bracket, and crank pulley (4 bolt) from a later 80's/early 90's Marquis/Vic style dual serp belt setup, let me know if you need anything like that, would like to get these out of the garage. But water pump rotation will have a big dictation on the front end dress.
