thinking of doing a swap on my ranger. what swap would b a good one??
the new 2011 5.0l, 4.6l SOHC or a 5.4l supercharged from a shelby gt500?

Duh!! The 5.4 dual overhead cams, supercharged. Easily bumped up to well over 600hp

Is that even a real question? If you have the resources, do the 5.4...People go with the 5.0 cause its cheap and easy (well, for an engine swap)

if you can do a 5.4 do it..i wish stainlessworks.net had a muffler for the ranger

the 2011 5.0 at like 7,500 for the create motor isnt really that cheap...

You guys do realize he is talking about the new 2011 5.0, not the old one that was in the Explorers.

The only problem with the 5.4 would possibly be the shear width of the engine. One other choice that I would consider would be the 4.6 dohc that was in the 03 & 04 cobras. I had an 03 convertible stock with only a catback exhaust. It made 427/400 without even a tune. I know people running as much as 800 hp and the internals are still stock. I like the new 5.0, but given the choice, I would still like to have my cobra back. My lightning makes 366/442 stock, but the lightning shortblocks are not as strong as the dohc engines. They start to fail just above 450 rwhp.

K wow!!lmao i was thinking about putting it in a 97 ranger. so from what i assume the 5.4L supercharged is better, but does anyone know if there are conversion kits for it? its a hard choice because i like the 5.4L supercharged, but the 5.0L aluminum is light, and 4.6L sohc or 4.6L supercharged from the cobra is a good setup too?? idk....

stock sounds better, that aftermarket kit sounds terrible IMO.

I am partial to the 4.6 dohc out of the cobra. Those are lighter that the 5.4 and has more potential than just about any engine that for has put out in the last few years.
When the time comes for a heart transplant for my 96 ranger, I will be going a simpler route. Forged 331 with all good internals. Set up for a 200 shot of nitrous

have you guys not seen the new 5.0 supercharged ratings? i say go 5.0! 5.4 is a old motor. go with the new stuff if your going to spend the money.
