Hey everybody, i finally found a wrecked 96 explorer for sale for $350! It has no rear axle and the front drivers side is damaged. He said it runs good and that the engine was rebuilt about 10 months before the accident, and the trans right before the accident. he is an older guy in a wheelchair and is going to let me put a deposit on it until i get the rest of the money. I will be looking around here to find a bunch more info, and i'm excited about doing this. From what I already read this will be a direct swap. I have a 2000 2.5L 5-speed and the explorer is a 96 5.0 automatic. It might be a little while but when i get the explorer i will post some pics.

Sorry to threadjack but your having a 5sp and the expo having an auto made me think of this...

Will a 5.0 out of an auto expo mate up with a T-5? or is there a bunch of wiring invloved?

I am also in this process. Good luck with the swap. I'll be keeping a close eye.

Nice...You swappin engine, trans, seats, and rear end? That is the 8.8LS rear end right?

Just the engine and trans. The seats are ripped up and the axle is gone. I have not looked into seat swapping yet, but maybe i can put my seats on those tracks? I don't really know yet. And I am still on a search for a 8.8 with disc brakes!
