2003 Ranger V8 swap needed
new to the forum and have been reading endlessly!!
Picking up a 2003 Tremor next week and wanted to get a v8 swap done. Is there anyone in or around the Nashville area that has done this or can do this swap? Or anyone in TN?? Thanks

Don't know bout Nashville area, but know a guy outside Sweetwater, TN that does them, you need both vehicles, and unsure bout cost to do it. He buys vehicles from Copart and does the swap & sells them. He stays pretty busy with other business, so its not a quick turn around....at least a month or more.

hey, can you give me the information to contact this guy? I know I'm not the original poster, but I too am interested in having something like this done. I'd be willing to buy two vehicles for the Swap and take it down to this guy if he could get it done. I see lots of Rangers for sale on Craigslist in my area that need engines. I also have come across a few V8 explorers that are being sold for parts due to rust/rot, but the engine is running fine. I could pick up both the Ranger there that needs an engine, and a Explorer with a good running engine for less than $1,200.

I got a brother that lives in Texas and I drive back and forth there a couple of times a year. I know about transporting Vehicles since I had about seven of my brother's cars sent down to him after he had moved to Texas, so logistics is not an issue. It's always harder to find a good mechanic that will work on the vehicles, then it is to transport them there.
Hack, my local mechanic is almost two hours away.
But for a project like this, I would probably try to look for the donor vehicle and the Ranger more local to where this guy is. Check them out on my next trip down to my brothers.

Re: 2003 Ranger V8 swap needed
Well apparently there's no need for me to worry about somebody to do a swap. I found locally somebody who selling a 98 extended cab with the V8 swap already done. Unfortunately it's a two-wheel drive, but I'm sure down the road I can find somebody that'll be able to do a 4 wheel conversion to it for me. Most likely will have to do some serious transmission finagling, since the owner told me that he had to put in a earlier model F-150 tranny to fit in under the body. Apparently it's smaller than the later model Transmissions, which leads me to believe that there might not be much room for a transfer case if I wanted to go for a four-wheel drive upgrade. I'm going to look at the truck next week, he's asking 6500 for it.

That's high ($6500) IMO, but a lot of people do use the F150 trans for a 5.0L 2wd swap, and you can't make a 98-00 into a 4wd without swapping to a 4x4 frame. You can with a 01 up 2wd Ranger Edge but earlier models you can't.

wow thank you for so much for that bit of information. That is definitely going to be a non-starter issue for me. also in terms of price, from what I've seen people selling them for on the classified ads around here as well as the ranger Forum classified section, that doesn't seem high at all seems . To me at least, it seems actually lower than any that I seen sold this past year. And of course I'm speaking of the ones that I have seen listed for sale that are completely done. The only ones I see posted which are asking for less, still need to be finished, and are not on the road yet. If you know of any V8 Ranger's that are for sale and are around 7K with four wheel drive, please feel free to send me a message about them.
