Default Looking to swap v-6 to v-8

I currently have a 3.0 V6 in my 1998 ranger and have been thinking about putting a V8 into it. There is a auto yard here in indy doing $40 bucks for everything you can carry out. I called them and said using a wheel barrow / little red wagon was good but two people couldn't carry it. So my question is what engines fit in a 1998 Ranger? I was thinking anything out of a F-150 would work.

ford explorer v8 5.0 is the best fit, a mustang 5.0 would work too. An f150 5.0 should also work. the modular v8 is really big, it can fit but you need to bang in the fire wall and make your motor mounts and such. But any ford 5.0 should be a near bolt in.

try and find a explorer 302 because they are the easiest to put in , stay away from 351m/400 which is the main engine in an f-100 in a junkyard because they are pretty much a 351c thats being choked also 4.6l are REALLY REALLY WIDE motors because they are a 90 degree block they are even wider then a 460 so your going to have some issues with clearence if you go with that, and if you do go with a 4.6l from a 93-98 lincon because they have the 4 valve dohc motors like a cobra does so you can use a maruader or cobra computer and get 302 hp stock (plus superchargers are always nice)

For a '98, I would research and go w/ the ex engine. Down fall is the GT40-P heads with the different spark plug angles and using headers. But they are decent for stock. Heads are where the power is at, aftermarket heads would give a good bang for the buck. I have a spare 5.0L out in the garage on a stand with E6SE heads and GT40-P explorer manifolds, passenger side dumps up high and they are extremely restrictive. Thought about modifying them, but came to the conclusion that headers from scratch would be the way to go.
