Default 97 Mountaineer V8 Engine issues??

Okay I am having serious issues with my 1996 v8 Ranger. The donor is a 97 Mountaineer. When you start it the engine idles fine....you give it gas the engine hesitates badley under a load and sounds like its starving for air....you can turn it off and crank it back up and it does the same thing....BUT...if the engine dies on its own and I recrank it the Stupid thing runs EXCELLENT until I turn it off and crank it back up then it starts the crappy cycle over again. The engine will only crank with the MAf unhooked also....and when its running and you hook it back up the engine dies. I replaced the Camshaft drive synchronizer and the CMP sensor..and properly aligned it, IAC, TPS, Plugs, Wires, Fuel Filter....I thought it would help but the issue is the same...I am lost on whats wrong...I had someone tell me its the computer.. Oh and my Gas mileage is TERRIBLE. The only thing thats not factory on the engine is a set of 24lb injectors, 24lb Maf sensor and Mustang fuel rails..Everything else is stock parts from a complete Mountaineer donor. I even swapped in the Mountaineer fuel pump into the tank. Any help or advice would be great.

if it only starts with the MAF unhooked, sounds like the MAF is bad. Have you tried swapping another one in? Are there any codes present?

I have tried 2 Maf sensors..the factory one and the 24lb Pro M I bought...Its weird it will crank up fine with it unplugged and idle fine but when you try to drive it down the road the engine chokes down...and if the engine dies on its own and I recrank it the dang engine will drive down the road fine until I turn it off.

wow, did it just start doing this? or has it done it since you swapped in the engine? Could be a bad ground wire, faulty PCM, bad wiring to the MAF or a number of other things. Again, is the check engine light on?

it sounds like an open loop issue. Maf may not be scaled correctly.

No check Engine light or codes other than the Egr codes...which Dont affect the Driveability...I plan on going to a buddies shop and snatching a couple Maf sensors he has laying around and trying them before I go the route of a new Pcm. I have had several little bugs I have been working out since I got it running..This one though I cant seem to shake.....But I have heard ppl go through 3 or more Maf sensors before they get a good one....I actually went through 3 solenoids from Autozone before I got a good one.

OK..I went thru 5 yes FIVE Maf sensors and I finally got a good one....1 came from the engine which ran when I pulled it from the Donor, #2 from Ebay, #3 Junk yard, #4 Autozone and finally #5 from Autozone. Truck runs like a champ!!!
