I own a 90 Aerostar, Its already had a V8 conversion. It was powered by a 289 for a year, then an oil pump failure and its coming out. Still fixable but not fast enough, I picked up a 2001 5.0 short block from an Explorer. The engine had a bent rod so a set of forged dish pistons, turbo ready, are going in. I'm planning on using the EFI system, however the PCM and harness are from a 96. I've noticed the cam and crank triggers have slight differences, and was wondering what the differences are in the 5 year span. I'm just wondering if there's more differences in the system. I'm going to get the PCM, I hope its not spiked from the crash, from the yard along with my parts list. I know the 96 uses PFE egr, where as all others use DPFE. its a minor issue and works fine in my dads with a 97 4x4 PCM. Does anyone know where I can find more info on the OBDII tech specs? I'd also like more info on tuning the newer systems.
I'm wondering if the 01 has a smaller pulse on the cam sensor, and a different location on the missing tooth an the crank sensor so it can use a similar PCM to that of a 4.6. I was also wondering if a 4.6 PCM would work? I'd like to know, so I can get another balancer if needed.
I've done an Explorer swap with my dad(into a 67 MG) but dont know if my newer motor is the same... Also I would like to use a system that has a MAP sensor, so I can retard the timing under boost(it'll be a while before turbo's go in).
The trigger wheel on the balancer is my issue, please help
