Default V8 5.0 and Emissions?

Does anyone know emission standards and laws for colorado?

I want to put a 5.0 302 V8 Mustang Engine and Tranny in my 94 Ford Ranger, but people keep mentioning emissions. Anybody know if its legal to do in Colorado?

What about the emission standards for putting a carb motor into a vehicle that was fuel injected?

Please help!

If you have emissions testing then you can pass, you just have to keep all of the emissions equipment. If you don't have emissions testing then you don't have to worry about it.

We have emission testing here in CO, Denver area.

My worry is, that even with all emission equipment, would it pass being an 85 or 86 5.0 mustang engine vs a 94 3.0 ranger engine?

Are there things you can put on to get better emissions?

that I don't have a clue. Check with your state laws, as I know some require you to have the same model motor as the vehicle or newer to pass emissions.

http://www.liftlaws.com/colorado_lift_laws.htm

Looks like Colorado does have the law where the engine must be the same or newer than the vehicle it is going in.

If you scroll down on the lift law link, there is a section on engines that states the engine must be the same year or newer and all emmissions equipment that pertain to the newer engine will apply to your truck.

The way i understand it is this, your 94 ranger would be classified as a 97 explorer if you used that engine.

The law is like CA's. The engine must meet the standards for the year of vehicle it was installed. If you put an 87 smogged v8 in your 94, it must meet the 94 emissions level. If you put a 97 engine in it, it still must meet the 94 standard or better, not the 97 levels. Here are the actual statues for engine changes from CO:
1420917 (209.0) ENGINE CHANGES:
1420918 (a) FOR THOSE VEHICLES OF MODEL YEARS 1974 AND OLDER IN WHICH THE ORIGINAL ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE EMISSIONS LIMITS FOR THE YEAR OF THE VEHICLE BODY OR CHASSIS, AS PER REGISTRATION OR TITLE SHALL APPLY.

1420919 (b) FOR THOSE VEHICLES OF MODEL YEARS 1975 AND NEWER IN WHICH THE ORIGINAL ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE VISUAL INSPECTION FOR APPLICABLE EMISSIONS CONTROL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE CONDUCTED AS INDICATED BY THE DR 2365 ISSUED BY A STATE OPERATED TECHNICAL CENTER.

1420920 (c) IF A DR 2365 IS NOT PRESENTED AT THE TIME OF THE INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC OR INSPECTOR MUST ENTER “FAIL” INTO THE ANALYZER FOR ALL EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEMS AND THEN REFER THE VEHICLE TO A STATE OPERATED EMISSIONS TECHNICAL CENTER TO OBTAIN ONE.

127.0 DR 2365 (VEHICLE EVALUATION FORM): A FORM INDICATING HOW THE VEHICLE IS CERTIFIED WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW IT SHOULD BE INSPECTED, HOW THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE ADJUSTED TO MEET MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS, AND WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED.

Go talk to the testers as several emission stations and get a general idea of what you have to do.
