Exclamation Looking to do 5.0 swap in 95 Ranger 2.3

So I know the first thing youre gonna say theres tons of posts on this i know. I'm looking to take a 5.0 out of an explorer and put it into my 95 Ranger. I want to keep it a 5 speed so what trans would be best for this? I head something about the M5OD or T5. I do plan to drive it pretty hard as we have plenty of land to rally on (which is what I'm wanting my Ranger to be in the end - a sort of rally truck). I already have the 8.8 in it so that'll stand up just fine. So what all can you tell me about the 5.0 swap that i might not already know? My ranger does have OBII so do i need to keep that in mind? Thanks any help would be reallt really great. I do have basic to intermediate knowledge on trucks, especially my own - But i definitely never have done a engine swap. Any help would be so great. Also the 302 5.0l is the explorer motor right? Which year explorer should i try and get it from?

Get a pre 97 explorer for the swap. After 98 I believe the explorers and rangers had a pats system. Basically a security theft system. Your truck doesn't have it. Meaning getting an explorer without it will be an easier swap.

Get a t-5 or M5OD from a 80s-90s f-150.

What's the difference between the T5 and M5OD? So that swap kit will come with the trans bell housing adaptor? What about the driveshaft? Will it be the right length?

You didn't click the link? it's a kit to swap in the engine only. The t5 and M5OD-R2 from an 80s-90s f-150 are a direct bolt up to the 5.0/302.

----------

Driveshaft should work but make measurements anyways to be sure. Hit the junk yard and take a tape measure. Measure the transmission to.

No I understand that. What I'm asking is if the same ranger driveshaft will fit and hold up with the 302 and the T5 or M5od trannys. Also is there any pros or cons on either of those two trannys?

I have a somewhat similar question that i asked and seem to have lost the thread. My truck is a regular cab short box 2wd ranger with a 4.0 5 speed. When swapping in the 5.0 with the t5 or TKO, will I have to cut a new hole for the shifter and if so how far back? My route is going to be a little different as I've got a 1990 merc colony park that just had a crate 5.0 put in it. I'm gonna swap heads and all that jazz when the time comes but a new (less than 10,000 mile) engine would be better than a 150,000+ engine right? Lol. And if you're swapping in a 5.0 I would suggest an exploder 8.8. Bigger shafts (I was told) and they are a 31 spline instead of the 28 spline ranger/crown Vic 8.8.

I've heard the t5 is an all around stronger tranny, thats just what I've heard.
