Default V8 Question 289 Hi-Po

I have a 289 Hi- Po out of a 1967 cougar that I would like to put in my truck eventually but I haven't been able to find anyone who has done this swap... was just wondering if there was a big reason why no one has ever used this engine. Thanks in advance.

Same as a 302 swap and I've seen a few of those.

289 revs faster though, and would be my preference in something as light as a Ranger.

289 is a damn good motor, last one I have went over 200K without burning any oil before I wrecked the car. Still lives on in a 65 F150, and still doesn't burn oil.

I wish I could find a 289 for my '54 F-100. Found a few but the guys just won't part with them.

i plan to go with an old toploader 3 or 4 speed

i can find them on craigslist around here for 150 to 300 used and just rebuild them yourself.

the only sense I can make of this is a reference to the age of a 289?

Meh, in my opinion, Ford screwed up when they enlarged it to 302. The 289 revved quicker, could do 6000rpm stock, and made a noise like no other.

oh i am in no hatred towards a 289...my dad and I were going to put one in a 1st gen, but ended up selling it. Kick myself in the ass everyday for letting it go. would have made a great toy to have some fun with

yeah my 65 fastback still has the 289 and i love the sound of it and how much faster it revs. whenever it comes time to rebuild it even if it does need a crank and rods im still goin to keep it a 289
