Crown Vic 5.0 swap into 99 ranger??????
I just recently bought a 5.0 engine from crown Vic wagon the engine I think is a early 90s it came with all the stock wiring harnesses, ECU, radiator, motor mounts and automatic transmission all from the Vic. I'm wanting to swap it into my 99 ranger that currently has an 2.5l engine and manual transmission in it. What would it take to do this swap as far as motor mount positioning wiring and transmission setup. All advice welcome and of course so are pics! Thanks.

I don't have a ton of experience with this swap but since you have a 2.5 I assume you have the 7.5 rear end, you will probably want to upgrade to an 8.8. Try to find one from and Expo with disc brakes.

Re: Crown Vic 5.0 swap into 99 ranger??????
Yup it has the 7.5 gears in it I'll try to up grade to the 8.8 if I can find some for a good deal. Is it necessary to do that? And I know you said you don't have much experience, but do you have any more advice, I'm really wanting to know about mounts will the ones from the 2.5 work or do I have to use the ones from the Vic?

Re: Crown Vic 5.0 swap into 99 ranger??????
not sure what you had in mind for engine mounts. there is a schematic floating around for v8 in 98+ with coil spring suspension that use your factory mounts.
radiator is going to be kind of an unknown because a) you're building plates or some other means, and you don't know where engine will end up. b) your engine has the long front end dress.
wiring is going to be a headache, that's all i can really tell you.
if your ranger fuel system is return less, it won't be compatible with the 5.0 since that will be return style.
imho that's not a great donor to swap in (low performance) unless you intended to build it up some. the only benefit really is that if it is early 90, it will have roller lifters and not flat tappet.

Not really its actually easier in his 4th gen truck being the motor will. Bolt right in might need to make something up for the trans support. Otherwise pretty simple.

Yah I was aware of the low performance due to mild cam in advance so I bought a better one before hand and rebuilding the whole engine as we speak. But I completely forgot about the return less fuel system in the 2.5, but I have way too much money into this now I want to finish it, is there any way around the fuel system issue or am I stuck? And as for Redrockets swap he had a 4.0 to begin with which I do believe has the return system. And my concern about the mounts is I was told that mine are hydraulic filled not solid rubber which make them weaker is this true or not? Thanks for the info.

Oh sorry I looked at the wrong ranger I think if I get the v6 mounts there should be no problem I know I can make the adapter plate it seems simple enough. I guess really all that's left to figure out is the radiator, wiring, and the fuel system.
----------
For the fuel system do you think I could jus drill a hole in the tank and run a return line to it or is it more complex than that?

He has a 2.5L - that has the coil spring suspension, not torsion bar. It is not a bolt in affair.
OP, see Dave's responses in this post:
http://www.v8-ranger.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2095
Also a great site for info, and he has the layout of the plates using the 4.0L mounts. The comment about headers does not apply to you since you do not have the GT40-P heads, but going to need some thought there since most swap headers are for 83-97 trucks if going that route.
Going to have to figure out a way to run a return line back to your tank. Don't know if you can swap to a different tank, or change pump unit. Worst case you can run a cell with an external pump. It's not impossible to get around, but I can't be much help here since I don't have what you're working with in front of me for reference. but you are going to have to go return-style.
Edit:
Dilling hole for return is not recommended, even if you're planning on using a grommet. it is just not safe.

I wish he would have completed his thread I wanted to see the end result, but thanks that did help some I'll get those mounts ordered. But I need that schematic for the adapter plates for the engine should be the same for an explorer 5.0 right? And for the fuel system problem I was planning to eventually get a new tank and move it to the back anyway. Do you think a fuel pump from a v6 ranger fit into my existing tank?

the schematic to the plates you need are in the thread i posted earlier, along with info on the motor mounts that go with them.
yes, the mounting points on the engine are the same between vic and explorer blocks.
no idea on if the assemblies are interchangeable.
