I believe the part you are referring to is the cam position sensor. It's behind the timing belt cover, behind the oil pump pulley. I found a pair of wires running to it near the power steering pump on the left side of the engine block, (the right side, looking at it from the front). I'm not about to tear down the whole front of my engine just hoping it's bad. I already went through that replacing my crankshaft position sensor, for which I had to remove the alternator, serpentine belt and drain my coolant and remove water pump feeder hoses and tube just to get to it. The sensor is just a magnetic pickup, nothing really to break or burn out. The cam position sensor is a similar sensor and would be even MORE of a pain to get to, with even more things having to be removed.
From what I've been told, the ICM is on the firewall. It's where the big wiring loom connects to the firewall. When the center bolt is removed, it pulls apart like a big rectangular wiring connector.
Am I right?
