Well the only thing i can think of is to tell you how i know the lights work and let you see if you can figure out something from there
The lights ground is wired into the door switch trigger wire which is a ground when the door is open and 12v when the door is closed. Since leds are diodes this is not a problem.
your problem may be coming from a loose ground wire making a ground somewhere other than that switch wire or worst case scenario your door switch could be going bad (not likely)
This is really the only thing I can think of that would cause them to come one randomly. Hope it helps and you can get the problem fixed.
