from a tech standpoint. the only thing thats going on is your shafts are turning with the wheels. this may cause more resistance causeing a minute drop in fuel economy. you may feel some resistance turning hard over caused by the u joints buinding a little. long as you dont turn sharp all the time no issue. and i also have my hubs locked in all winter. if i get bogged down or expect some slick spots i shift to 4 hi. there is a positive benifit with the hubs locked in... your front dif gets lubed so things dont sieze.. remember to change diff lube if you submerge it while 4 wheeling
