Yes it is a patch, but a cheap one. Most of Tom's links say dw-40. Do it, if the problem goes away, I say keep doing it. There's a reason most ranger drivers keep dw-40, duct tape, and a rachet set in their trucks lol. I have to do mine about ever 3-4 months. Which is fine by me, because it costs like nothing and being a broke college kid, cheap is good
