You definitely want to place the tint inside, it will protect the film. Go with Brandon's suggestion and be prepared to practice it. I tinted some of my home windows myself, bought a bundle of tint for pretty cheap and the first couple times were pretty bad but after doing it a couple times you'll get the hang of it.

One thing to remember when cutting the tint is it that you want to use a very sharp exacto knife and make sure to take your time so your not pulling the tint. A slight tug will cause it to tear and ruin the edging.
