Default 2.3 axle swap questions

New guy here, although I've been lurking for almost a year now, looking for a few answers before I start the axle swap.

I have a 2002 2.3L 4cyl 2wd 5spd, current axle code is 86, which is an open 7.5 with 3.73 gears. I drive almost exclusively on the hwy, and am not all that impressed with the open rear differential with my lovely Canadian winters. Looking to swap to a limited slip rear diff. I have no concerns about the work involved, but have no idea what's going to fit.

I'm going to be looking for a used rear end (with drum brakes, don't want the pain of swapping to disc), with as straight a swap as possible. Likely doing the junkyard dive, and not looking for anything fancy.

What should I be looking for? year/model, ranger/explorer, does it matter if the doner is 2wd or 4wd, auto or std(mine is std).

I'm guessing I'm looking for a F4, F5, or F6 axle code........did I just answer my own question? Or should I be real concerned about gearing? Or is the 8.8 an easy swap option?

2002 2.3L 4cyl. reg cab 5spd. Pretty much stock I'm sorry, I'll try to change that.
