NO! Do not connect that to 12vdc! From your first schematic it's a noise shield for the signal wires to the sub amp. See how the dotted lines wrap around the signal wires. Like when you buy a shielded RCA cable but since they just use regular wires I guess they shield it to the amp. You only need to tap 3 wires on that side (L/R signals and remote turn on).
And yes I would go this route. The connector looks big enough to solder to each pin and slide on some heatshrink for good measure.
