OK, end of story. I took the 4 injectors to a shop that has a machine that can check & flush injectors. They tested all 4 but found 1 that didn't respond electrically or mechanically. I checked with a few parts houses including the Ford garage but nobody had an injector in stock (1 to 3 days out) at $75 to $95. So I went to our nearest wrecking yard & within 15 minutes had another 1996 2.3l injector in hand for $10 which I also had tested & it tested good. Got back home, installed the injectors & got the Ranger back together. Runs fine now. From what everybody told me I would never have figured on a bad injector but this was one of those rare times.
