Wiring shouldn't be any different at all. It is just 12 volt power and ground to the ballasts and the lights light up. I can not see any DISADVANTAGE to using HID off-road lights.

You can buy off-road lights that are made to be HID with the ballasts integrated. They usually cost some astronomically jacked up price for no reason.

Or you can do like I did... Use normal inexpensive halogen off-road lights and just replace the H3 halogen bulb with H3 HID bulb and use an external ballast. Just like a headlight swap. Dirt cheap.
