The reason why it is "louder" is because the air is turning around sharper corners. When air makes a sharp turn it makes that "swoosh" fast noise. If you want to see what I mean go get your "shop vac" and put your hand in different positions infront of the hose and you will hear the noise change.
You will gain absolutely nothing other than sound by doing this.
