Re: Thinking of getting an FIPK intake from K&N
Well, I did the air box mod this morning since I was bored. I removed the snorkel and chamber that are supposed to reduce noise. I then took it for a drive, however, I did not notice any increase in intake noise, nor did I sense any improvement in power. Maybe a bit better throttle response but that's it. I'm guessing I can't hear any extra noise because of my exhaust being a little on the loud side.
The only thing I can guess is that the round snorkel that goes into the airbox is supposed to reduce turbulance of the incoming air so it has a straight shot up the ramp in the bottom of the box to the filter. I figured since it bottle necks like that, it also increases air velocity. (Think of trying to blow out a candle using a Mc Donald's straw verses a dryer vent hose)
I'm also a little worried that driving in the rain behind other cars may cause the filter to become damp if any water comes in from under the right headlamp, but I'll wait and see.
Going to try the throttle cable mod next and take up the slack in the cable with some zip ties, and I'll let everyone know how that goes. Also not anticipating any vast change in performance being that my truck is only 5 months old and no stretching of the cable is likely to have taken place.
