Default Auto trans shifting hard

Hello all- first post- it's related to my mother's truck. It is a 2002 Ranger 3.0L auto trans long bed base model.

The trans shifts pretty hard, not in any specific gear. It downshifts hard, it upshifts hard, just generally shifts hard.

I have done some research on this, and have read some about a valve body gasket or something like that...any ideas what might be causing the hard shifts? It only does it when under hard or full throttle, when I'm just cruising it seems to shift pretty smoothly.

Any ideas? I'm pretty handy when it comes to car stuff, and do work on my Dakota (don't get too upset lol) and have done trans fluid changes, etc on my truck and am pretty good at this stuff so I am hoping there is a relatively easy fix that wont cost her a fortune? Any ideas?

Thanks.
