So i have a 1987 ranger 2.3L 5 speed 57000 original miles. today coming home from work she suddenly jerked a few times, slowed down, i tried to speed up but just heard a whinding sound. I wasn't getting anywhere so i pulled over to stop the honking from the cars behind me. i pumped my clutch when stopped and had pressure the last 2 inches of the throw. i didnt want to push it home, so i tried to drive and it worked. but on the way home it happened again.... is this a slipping clutch? throwout bearing flywheel? when i bought the truck last year i was told it had a new clutch, which i highly doubt now. Please help me!

Just because it has a "new" clutch doesn't mean it has a good clutch, or a properly installed clutch.

I'd check with the former owner to see how said clutch made its way into the truck, and what kind was used in the replacement.

Check the clutch fluid reservoir. Then check for leaks.
