P1131 Diagnostic Help
So I was driving a two hour 115 mile trip today and the Check Engine light came on. I completed a cylinder head job and timing belt about 42K miles ago, a little over a year ago. I got the code checked on it came up as a P1131. I've looked into was some problems could be but wanted to ask you guys. The O2 Sensors (both) were replaced during he head swap. Also full tune up, coolant, fuel filter, thermostat. I just recently did an oil change (1.5K miles ago). I have noticed that at times but not all the time, the engine will rev up high when I push the clutch in to when getting off the highway coming to a stop. This doesn't happen all the time but have noticed it before. I also noticed at one point in my 2 hour drive today that the truck felt like it was under powered, so I dropped from 5th to 4th gear, same thing, underpowered. When I went into 3rd gear the higher RPMs seemed to bring it back to life and it ran great after that.
The EGR has been replaced, prior to me replacing the cylinder head but within 10K of that repair.
So basically, what do you recommend as a possible problem or diagnosis technique? Thanks much.

Should I just clean these with Carb Cleaner? I have done this fairly recently, within 15K. Is it possible that it would need to be cleaned again?
The truck is a 2000 2.5L XLT 4X2
I have a rattle when I drop from a high to low gear to engine brake but I have figured out that it is most likely the CAT rattling around.

are you talking about cleaning the electrical connectors? Or the internals?
I put my foot in my mouth on the last message, thanks for correcting me.

Re: P1131 Diagnostic Help
Hello guys. So I ran some seafoam through the gas in the tank and put some through the vac line (line from brake booster to intake manifold) and the intake. Cleaned up really nice with good power and idle. My problem now is the check engine light came on the morning after I complete this. Is there any way to diagnosis the check engine light without a scanner tool? My truck is a 2000 2.3l xlt 2x4. Thanks for the help.

In a word, no. Scan tools start at about $20. It's a must-have on today's vehicles.
If you haven't done so yet, cleaning the MAF, MAF, IAC and Throttle Body are a must. These are regular maintenance jobs just like an oil change. Again, it's cheap, easy and an under two hour job. Cleaners needed are under $20 for all of them.
Doing these may clear up your problems.

Re: P1131 Diagnostic Help
This is the reader I bought
http://www.amazon.com/Elm327-Wirless-Diagnostic-Reader-Scanner/dp/B00AOIM2CC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1379858187&sr=8-3&keywords=elm327
$21...
And the App => https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en
for $4.95. I have used it on both my '98, my '07, my girlfriends Subaru, a coworkers 4Runner, this truly is a no brainer. Geek gets blasted by the mouth breathers for saying it, but really, get a reader. it's so easy there is no good reason not to.

Re: P1131 Diagnostic Help
Found out, kinda randomly, that the spark plug wires were completely shot. After replacing all of them and the plugs I found that three of the eight were not even connected to the spark plugs anymore. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT anymore when I fired it back up and is running really smooth. Thanks for all of the advise.
