2.3 build
Ok so I have a 97 ranger and I'm wanting to add a little more power to it. I'm wanting to do this right and do it right he first time. I'm not wanting to add a turbo or supercharger or any power outers. Just want it to be all motor. Any ideas and or suggestion on what all needs to be done. I'm wanting to gain about an additional 100 at the wheel hp maybe a lil more or less.

+1 that is going to be tricky but if you throw enough money at the problem anything is possible!
Let's look at the specs - back in the day when your '97 was new it made about 112 hp.
Now you want to add 100hp so even if your dream can come true your still only at a whooping 212hp. (Or roughly the same as a 2001+ 4.0 V6 Ranger)
I mean if that's your dream go ahead and follow it......

Re: 2.3 build
So basically, y'all are saying that to add 100 hp by being all motor it would be very expensive or next to impossible? By keeping the 4cyl?
----------
So turbo charging might be an option I may look at. Where could I get a kit that would have what I would need for it?

Check out my build thread. All I can say is an all motor 2.3 is very expensive and tricky. It won't be easy and you'll have to spend a lot of time and money doing it. For that exact reason, I can spend a little more and make 325 at the rear wheels with a turbo.

Re: 2.3 build

This place has the parts to get you more power.
Back in the 90's I had a 2.3 built with roller cam head, high compression and dual side draft weber carbs. No power under 1800 rpm but rev like a sewing machine on crack. It was expensive to build. Would have made more power with turbo but I wanted to see if I can get 200+ hp. Got to about 190 on chassis dyno. This motor was in a pinto which is a lot lighter then a ranger. Also ran a reworked/blueprinted motorcraft carb that was designed for pony stock racing. Easier to keep tuned over webers, but down about 20hp if I remember. It was fun to beat up kids with honda's in a 70's pinto driven by an old guy. Good luck with your build.

Re: 2.3 build
turbo and your 2.3 will love you..... that's what im doing.... the turbo will have better power than the 4.0 rangers and retain the gas mileage of the 4 cylinder... best of both worlds if you ask me...

I'm doing the same thing. Tuning is difficult but it is reliable power that you can count on.
