Default Gas gauge and gas tank question?

So I'm pretty sure my 95 2.3l 4x4 has a 16.5 gallon tank, well I get around 20-21mpg but I'm on E at 300ish miles.. And if I fill it up on E it only puts in 14.5ish gallons of fuel, so my question is since there's still 2 gallons of fuel can I still run it another 25-35 miles or does the fuel pump not reach the bottom of the tank since the gauge says E?

You don't need to run It that low anyway.

if you ABSOLUTELY have to do it, you can. There is more gas at the bottom BUT KEEP IN MIND that the gas in the tank is the very thing that keeps the pump cool. Once the pump starts getting hot, it won't be long before it dies.

No the pump is not at the bottom of the tank. It attachs to the pickup tube and strainer which run to the bottom of the tank. Don't run it that low, you will start picking up the crap that settles at the bottom of the tank.

Dad always said "It doesn't cost any more to keep the top half of the tank full than it does to keep the bottom half full."

I am in the habit of filling up at 1/8 of a tank left. But then again I think my "slosh module" isn't working correctly and 1/8 tank might be pretty close to empty.
