Need 2.3 5speed M5OD to T-5 trans swap INFO!

Okay guys i have a 1989 2.3 5speed with the M5R1 or M5OD trans? Its the Mazda trans I know that i think its the M5OD. Anyways I took the trans out of my 94 and put it in my 89 when i wrecked my 94. I drove the truck till the trans took a **** on me going down the interstate. The bearings locked up in it, Yes it had fluid. The trans had over 230,xxx on it and was beat to ****.

So i bought another trans to go in it. I paid $250 for the trans and it was in REALLY good shape had like 70,xxx on it. I took my E-brake cable off cause of bagging my truck. I had to park with the truck in Reverse a few times also. I know thats not good on the trans but had no choice. I had to push jump it the other night due to a dead battery.

Now my trans is making this Noise like the Bearing are going BAD. Its Whinning also. I think its low on fluid so i put some lucas in it tonight cause it had a slight leak thu the shifter witch is a Hurst shifter. I read that some guys was having a problem with theres leaking after installing the shifter also. I hope its making this noise due to low fluids but im scared its not.

Now on to what i want to know. I know to do a T-5 swap i have to get the bell housing and the 2.3 T-5 trans.

The info i need to know is this:

Whats the best T-5 to get a one out of turbo or non turbo car or they both the same?

Will my STOCK drive shaft work with the T-5?

Do i have to do any cusomizing other than cutting my floor out for the shifter?

Will my stock hydrolic clutch line work?

Will my STOCK starter work?

Will my STOCK clutch work?

Do i have to get a different slave cylinder?

Will my stock Fly wheel work?

ANY OTHER INFO PLEASE TELL ME!!!

this should explain the diffs in the T5 but any 4cyl T5 will work

************* you may get luck and it will be close, but the slip yolk, will most likely have to be changed to a TF one, but assume you will have to measuer once the T5 is bolted in and check the JY

**** depends on what seat you have, with a bench seat in my 85 had to stay pushed back so I could shift.

Will my stock hydrolic clutch line work?
****** maybe , to a point, it may be too short to reach the relocated slave, but having one made with the proper ends should not be to hard to have done or cost too much

Will my STOCK starter work?
*****yes all 2.3 starters run the same bolt pattern

Will my STOCK clutch work?
****** it should, But you may need a diffrent Throw out bearing

Do i have to get a different slave cylinder?
******* yes, you will need one from a 87/88 Thunderbord Turbo Coupe

Will my stock Fly wheel work?
******** It should with out issue

you will need to get the bell housing from a 87/88 Thunderbird Turbo coupe, along with the thow out bearing fork, it is the only T5 with a Hydrolic clutch I am aware of.

Does it matter if the T-5 comes out of the Mustang coupe or the Thunderbird coupe? Whats the difference if any?

My truck is an 89 short bed 2.3 with the Mazda trans not the Mits trans.

******** the Nustang and the 83-86 turbo coupe are cable pull, the 87/88 TC are hydro clutches, (external slave like a 83 ranger)

Did you have to get a new hydro clutch line made? I had a cable pull clutch in mine( I do not reccomed this for the simple reason you have to dirl 1.250 cable hole in the fire wall and you may end up with several befor you get it in the right spot)

Did you have to change out your yoke?

Was you able to use your stock clutch and flywheel?
flywheel yes, the spline count on the input shaft is diffrent , therefore the clutch disk is diffrent

What other info do i need to do the T-5 swap?
you may have to mod the trans cross member...

okay so find a t-5 yoke and just change it out from my stock one?

I have a aftermarket trans X member so that wont be a prob.

depends.... I can not say if your DS will be the right length.... measuer from the face of the bell to the rear seal flange of both transmissions. that should let you know if your stock DS will be right or not..

okay cool. Is there any good website other than ebayand craigslist to find a t5 and bellhousing?? Should any local JY have them?

check your local salvage yards for the T5 gear box.... but the Hydro bell will have to come from a 87/88 thundebird turbo coupe, to my knowlage all mustangs were a cable pull

Okay cool now will the input shaft have to be from a 2.3 T-5 if the gear box is from a V8?

Okay so im gonna find a TC with a good T-5 in it and pull the T-5 and bellhousing.

Other than that i will need to buy a clutch for the 87-88 TC and slave cylinder.

What about the driveshaft any word on it??

Anyone read or heard about using the stock stadard cab short bed ranger driveshaft??

If i have to swap out the slip yoke thats cool i just need to know bout the length.

O do not know what length DS you need...

you will have to mount the rear flange and then slide in the slip yolk and measure the center to center of U joint holes

to get you close, what you can do is measure the lengths of both trans to find out if the T5 Is longer or shorter, then the diffrence will be what is needed to be added or removed from the DS
