Default Changed Differential Oil & Transmission Fluid

I have a 1992 ranger with 350,000KM on it.

last night I change both the differential oil and the tranny fluid.

The Differential oil smelled so rotten that I almost puked and I have an iron stomach! Obviously it had never been changed. I added Lucas Oil Stabilizer to the mix, about half a bottle (15-20OZ).

I also added lucas ATF repair fluid to the tranny. I thought I was a little low (i think i am leaking at the rear seal) but I was about 20oz short.

A day later and I am already noticing a peppy truck that it happy with new fluids.

For such an easy job, it sure made a big difference.

It's great that you changed out the nasty fluids but the "Big" performance difference is just psychological.

I didn't say that I was driving a street racer now.

My 5th gear has been causing me grief since I got the truck and I can now use it without issue. No more bucking, choking or bad behavior.

I have a 2002 ford ranger 4x4 with over 100,000 miles. My manual said to use 80w 90 but when I was changing the oil to the rear differential a tag was attached saying use ONLY 75w 140. So question is, which do I use? I don't want to ruin it

I'd go by the tag because maybe the rear differential was swapped before.

You must have a FX4 Level II, with the torsen diff, and 31 spline axles, those are the only ones that had those tags. Use 75w140 synthetic.
