i have a stock 06 mazda b2300 with 225/70/15 tires. im running 4.10 gears. i want to lift it 3" and run 31x10.50s. i was wondering how it would run with these 31" tires? i dont really want to regear. how many of yall are running this setup and happy. thanks!

The big tires will slow the truck up quite a bit. I went from 225/70/15s to 235/75/15s last month and the acceleration was hurt a bunch.......with 31s even worse. Unfortunately everything has a price.

It won't be too bad. My 2.3 with 3.73 gearing does just fine with them. Its not the fastest thing on the road but it gets the job done. Your 4.10s will do great

My 2001 Ranger is at the tire shop right now having 255-70R15 General Grabber AT2 tires put on it. It has a 2.3 liter, 5-speed, 2WD. No idea what the rear axle ratio is. Hopefully it will be ok without re-gearing. I used to run 31" truck tires on a '63 VW baja'd Beetle with 1300cc motor, 40 hp. "To me" it ran just fine for years. So I'm thinking I'll be able to live with the 255-70 tires on the Ranger. I just might not use 5th gear as much as I have been.

Highly depends on the transmission and rear gearing. If you have a 4speed auto, it will hurt it alot more then a 5speed manual.

Yeah I have a 97 b2300 with 2.3 4speed aod on 31s with 3.73. Sucks but it pulls everything I need and does what it should. She's getting a lift soon and an explorer 8.8 ls 4.10 swap.

4.10's and 31's will be similar to normal sized tires and 3.73's. I'm running 3.73's on 31/10.50's and it does alright. There's faster stuff out there, but then again, our engines aren't the biggest in town :P It will do just fine with those gears.

Your not factoring in his truck being an auto. Like I said, it depends on a 4speed auto or 5speed manual. Don't pay attention to people like these who don't even read the whole thread.

im running 31's its fine. i have 5 spd auto all preunnered out. 410 expo axle. if you have any doubts 5:26 i believe is the next gear up

I just got my Ranger back from the tire shop today. They put on 255-70R15s which translate into about a 29.5" tire. Not quite a 31" but not too far away. I checked the axle ratio code on my truck when I got it home (I just recently bought it) and it was an 86 which means 3.73:1 gears. I have a 5-speed. The truck did so well on the way home as far as not feeling bogged-down or sluggish that I almost immediately regretting not going to 31" tires. I realize mine is not an automatic but I have real trouble believing that an auto 2.3 liter with 4.10:1 gears will have any trouble at all with 31" tires. DON'T FEAR THE REAPER.

I see posts with experiences involving 5 speeds and not autos before and after mine, yet you choose me to attack me? Interesting... and much to your displeasure, I read the whole thread. He didn't state what transmission he has too. He wanted some input, so I gave him some. So take that haphazard tone of yours and buzz off.

sorry guys i will clear it up. it is an automatic, probably a 4spd at that. yes it has 4.10s and a 27" tall tire. it screams away around 3k at 70-75. im getting around 21 mpg in town right now. i dont want it to fall mpg or performance or ill just go plan b and that is 4/5 drop and some mustang wheels and take advantage in the fuel mileage. thanks!

Probably a 4 speed???? At least you know it's an automatic.
Common sense will tell you the more a wheel/tire weighs, the more power it'll take to turn it. If you want the fuel economy maximized, go with what's on the door jamb sticker.

But your first post only gave him a one sided story. When tires cost a ton of money, its very important for the person to know. Instead of him wasting over thousand bucks for tires that he finds out he can't use.
