Default 99 Mazda B2500 Timing Belt

Hello everyone, I getting ready to but a 1999 B2500 SE 4 cylinder auto with 66,700 miles. I was just wanting to know if the timing belt will be good until 100k miles or should it be changed fairly soon?

you should be able to pull the timing belt cover a little bit away from the front of the engine. then you can actually see the belt.

if it has cracks or wear, i'd replace it... but i bet it's fine having only 67k miles...

Remove the 8 or 10mm bolt I believe in the middle of the cover and you should be able to pull it far enough away to tell. I would say the belt should be good to 100k but being that its so old that will also had to the deterioration of the rubber. So if you need it to be reliable you have to take a peak at it.

Any ideas on how much a timing belt change would cost? Should you do the head gasket at the same time? cost?

Thanks!

hmmmm ... the timing belt & tensioner kit should cost around $300 parts & labor maybe more... sometimes shops will ask you to do the water pump too... totally up to you on that one.

and if you don't have any head gasket issues, then don't worry about it. leave that oem gasket as is. these motors have a good reputation as far as that goes...
