Default mystery vacuum line??

I have a 97 2.3L 5-speed reg cab stepside ranger with what I consider a mystery vacuum line. You can see it in the photo along side the heater lines, on top of the AC box. It seems to come from inside the cab, and is grey in color, with a nice fitting on the end. There is no place I can find that it might have been attached. There is another line coming from the cab that goes to the vacuum 'ball' under the air filter. Anyone else have this line, and if so, where does it go??!!??

Dunno, but I always wonder what that box is. Care to tell me? I always guess a/c or heater or something.

That's the heater box.

The vacuum line should run to one of the valves or whatever that's somewhere in all the heater hoses.

Should go to the heater control valve which looks to have been eliminated from what I can see of the heater hoses.

Heater control valve, and I agree it appears your valve has been eliminated with 5/8" hose couplers.

You should plug that grey line up though because it will affect your Max A/C setting. Since they recirculation door and front vents are on the same vacuum "circuit" as your heater control valve, if you are driving along in MAX A/C your vacuum ball will loose vacuum due to the leak at the grey line and your air vents will default to the defrost position and your recirc door will default to fresh air.

Hey thanks for the replies!! I believe you've solved the mystery. I did go ahead and plug up the line, because as said above, I have trouble with max AC. :-)

Appreciate the help.

@Sheltonfilms - I went ahead and installed a heater control valve. It appears the max a/c is working, be nice if we had some WARM WEATHER to try it out!! I don't see the heater control valve moving though when I switch to max a/c, not sure it really matters.

thanks again.
