Default Interior fan works on only low & high speed

Hello I have a 99 ford ranger 2wd. It seems that my interior fan speed switch only works on the lowest and highest speed. The other 2 medium speeds blow just like the lowest speed. At times however only the high speed works. Thank you for any help or assitance. Thank you

Just to clarify the ac and heat work ok its just the speeds that are off. Also I did some research, it may be the HVAC resistor pack or the fan speed switch itself. Any ideas which one would be the cause of the above issue? thanks Ranger owners.

It could be either but there is a MUCH higher failure rate in the blower resistor block. The resistor assembly is also cheaper to replace than the switch.

One other thing to check is the condition of the electrical connector at the resistor block. The pins have a tendency to corrode over time.

Do you have an idea where this HVAC pack is? I did find a detailed step by step for a ford explorer. Im guessing you have to take the blower motor cover off ( under the hood) to get at it and is this a dealer only part or will napa have it, thanks alot for the help.

The resistor block is easily accessible right next to the blower in the plenum. Look for a 4-wire connector plugged onto a plastic plate with 2 screws. You can get it at the dealer or at an auto parts store. Either way, should be under $20.
