Re: 2.3l towing/hauling thread
Mpg hwy. 21 city 15-18 ish
It's a 5 speed with super low gear
It's from when dodge was trying to build a truck strong enough for the engine so it has a 1 ton axle on a 2500 truck overload springs and restricted the engine a little
To open up the motor u just crank up the fuel pressure regulator but then good by mpg

Re: 2.3l towing/hauling thread
Hauled 1 cubic yard of mulch with mine. She was sagging pretty well, but pulled with no problem. Just don't try to pull into traffic, the acceleration is terrible to begin with and the braking becomes scarier with a load.

So according to you the ford engineers designed a truck with the intention that it would never be used for anything that a truck is expected to do. Thank you for saying that its people like you that make the rest of us look like the second coming of Einstein. No my little 2.3 cannot tow a house like your stupid diesels can but it can haul 1000 pounds all day every day.

Re: 2.3l towing/hauling thread
I've pulled a 3000 lb.-ish 90' Ford Ranger (passenger included) about 15 miles through the Texas Hill Country. Some of the hills, you could definitely feel and hear that 4 cyl. working as hard as it could.
